President Muhammadu Buhari has questioned the credentials giving former President Olusegun Obasanjo the quality to sit in judgement over his administration , saying the former Nigerian leader lacks the moral right to query the credibility or otherwise of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC ) to conduct free and fair polls in the forthcoming general election . For the umpteenth time, Obasanjo yesterday came hard on Buhari over his administration’ s preparedness for the elections , alleging that the president was simply perfecting plans to rig the polls . IG ORDERED THE DECENTRALIZATION OF FSARS.

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the immediate decentralisation of operations of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) unit. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that before the current development, operations of SARS were centralised at the Force Headquarters. NAN also recalls that SARS operations were recently reorganised following alleged unethical conduct by personnel of the unit. Mr Adamu gave the order at a meeting with officers in the rank of commissioners of police and above on Monday in Abuja. He said that with the new arrangement, commissioners of police in the 36 states and the FCT would assume full command and control on all SARS in their commands. The police boss said henceforth, the SARS unit in the force headquarters would be under the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID). The Academic Staff Union of Universities says government must show proof of payment of at least N 50 billion revitalisation funds for it to consider suspending the on -going strike . ASUU President , Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi , made this known to newsmen on Sunday in Ibadan ahead the union ’ s meeting with the Federal Government on Monday . Ogunyemi added that ASUU had said only concrete evidence of implementation by the government would make its members return to the classrooms . He said ASUU had rejected government ’ s proposal to pay N 20 billion in two tranches on the revitalisation of universities and asked the government to mainstream the earned academic allowances into the 2019 budget before National Assembly. Borno State’s Commissioner of Information, Dr. Mohammed Bulama who declared Monday a work-free day for the President’s re-election campaign in a statement released on Sunday, said this was to enable workers in both the public and private sectors, as well as students to troop out in large numbers to welcome Mr. President. The currently striking Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government will resume talks Monday (tomorrow) on how to resolve the now over two-month-old strike embarked upon by lecturers. According to PUNCHNG.COM, the national President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, confirmed the development in Abuja, on Friday. He, however, said the union was not optimistic about the prospects of an early resolution of the industrial dispute. In response to a question on whether there had been any fresh development with regard to the resolution of the dispute, Ogunyemi said, “I’ am afraid nothing new. I understand they will be meeting us on Monday. Let’s wait and see if they take a reasonable step; it will determine our next line of action. Until then, let’s wait and see.”
