Urgent Call for Improved Fire Service Response and Support in Osun State Following Hostel Fire Incident

TO: The Executive Governor, State of Osun* *FROM: Caretaker Chairman, NANS JCC Osun Axis* DATE: May 28, 2026 SUBJECT: *Urgent Call for Improved Fire Service Response and Support in Osun State Following Hostel Fire Incident* It is with deep concern and profound disappointment that we, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Osun Axis, bring to your esteemed attention a recent tragic incident that occurred this evening at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. A devastating fire engulfed a student hostel, resulting in the complete loss of students' properties and essential academic materials. While we are immensely grateful that no lives were lost, the incident has highlighted critical shortcomings in our state's emergency response infrastructure. The response to this critical emergency was severely hampered by the late arrival of the fire service. More disturbingly, upon their arrival, the fire fighting vehicle reportedly lacked adequate fuel, critically limiting their ability to combat the inferno effectively. This dire situation not only exacerbated the loss of invaluable student belongings but also raises serious questions about the preparedness and resourcing of the Osun State Fire Service. Such a lack of adequate support and timely intervention is unacceptable and poses a grave risk to the safety and well-being of citizens across the state. We, therefore, implore your administration to take immediate and decisive action. This includes a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the late arrival and inadequate fueling of the fire service vehicle. Furthermore, we demand a comprehensive review and significant enhancement of the resources, training, and operational readiness of the Osun State Fire Service. Adequate funding, modern equipment, and a robust fuel supply chain are not luxuries but essential necessities for an effective emergency response system. We expect a commitment from your government to ensure that such a devastating loss, compounded by a delayed and ill-equipped response, does not reoccur. Yours in struggle, *Comr. Olawole Sheriffdeen Abolaji (Beejay)* *Caretaker chairman* *09027511162* *Olawolesheriff100@gmail.com*
