NAUS CMC Osun Pays Solidarity Visit to OAU Following Robbery Incident
In response to the recent robbery and burglary incidents that shook the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus, the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Campus Monitoring Committee (CMC), Osun Axis, has paid a solidarity and courtesy visit to the institution.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of NAUS CMC Osun, Comrade Adeleke Samson Okikijesu, alongside other executive members including the Director of Security and Project Delivery, Comrade Olaore David Kolokolo. The visit aimed to express sympathy, engage with stakeholders, and promote stronger security collaboration.
During the visit, the NAUS team met with the university’s Chief Security Officer (CSO) to discuss proactive steps toward improving student safety. The CSO suggested that the landlords’ association in student-dominated areas should consider engaging Local guard security personnel. He also emphasized the need to establish a reliable emergency contact system for quick response in times of crisis.
The team also visited the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Modakeke at Oke-Otubu, accompanied by members of the OAU Students’ Security Committee. In the meeting, the DPO recommended the formation of either a *vehicular patrol team* or a *foot patrol team* to enhance surveillance and deter future criminal activity. The students’ committee agreed to initiate a *stable foot patrol system* to boost on-ground security.
Speaking after the meetings, Comrade Adeleke commended the university management for their swift response to the incident and called on relevant security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. He reiterated the association’s commitment to safeguarding student welfare across all campuses in Osun State.
“This is not just a show of solidarity, but a call for collective action. The safety of students is non-negotiable,” he said.
The visit highlights the growing concerns over campus security and the need for collaborative efforts between student bodies, university management, local communities, and security agencies.
