SECURITY CRISIS IN ILE-IFE: NAUS STANDS WITH GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION, CONDEMNS POLICE NEGLIGENCE, DEMANDS URGENT ACTION

In a bold show of solidarity and firm condemnation, the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Campus Monitoring Committee, Osun State, has issued a strong statement standing with the Great Ife Students’ Union over the growing security breakdown threatening the lives and welfare of students in Ile-Ife.
Citing over 30 reported robbery incidents and a case of a student being brutally macheted in the past two weeks, the association criticized the Nigerian Police Force in Ile-Ife for what it described as *"criminal negligence and administrative failure."* In a press statement signed by *Comrade Adeleke Samson Okikijesu*, Chairman of NAUS CMC Osun State, the student body accused the Area Commander and relevant security authorities of abandoning their constitutional duties. The statement described their inaction in the face of violent attacks as *“a betrayal of the mandate to protect life and property.”* > “For any officer to claim a lack of functional operational vehicles in the face of terrorizing violence is unacceptable and reeks of administrative failure and systemic disregard for student lives,” the statement reads. NAUS raised critical questions on the utility of a police presence that cannot respond to emergencies and challenged both the Osun State Police Command and the Commissioner of Police to publicly explain their failure to act decisively in protecting students. NAUS’ Four Demands The statement went further to issue four specific demands: 1. Immediate deployment of special tactical teams to all student-populated areas in Ile-Ife. 2. Public explanation and swift action from the Osun State Commissioner of Police and the Area Commander. 3. Urgent equipping of local security outfits with patrol vehicles and surveillance tools by the Osun State Government. 4. Intervention from the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Police Affairs to restore peace and forestall future attacks. A Call to Unity and Resistance Addressing students directly, the association assured the OAU student community of its unflinching support, declaring that the struggle for safety and justice is a shared one among all Nigerian students. > “This fight is not yours alone — it is a fight for every Nigerian student who deserves to learn in peace, not in peril.” The message was co-signed by Comrade Olayode Ayomide Barakat, General Secretary of NAUS CMC Osun State, and broadcasted by Comrade Akinboboye Daniel (Prince), the Committee’s Public Relations Officer. The statement has since been copied to various key stakeholders, including the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Government, NANS Zone D, NAUS National Secretariat, and all Students' Unions across Osun State. As the security crisis continues to stir outrage, all eyes are now on law enforcement and government authorities to take decisive and immediate action. #EndInsecurityNow #JusticeForStudents #NAUSStandsWithGreatIfe
