In a powerful reflection on a year defined by progress and purposeful leadership, Ogbeni Sasona Mayowa Ayomide, Director of External Affairs and Inter-Union Relations, has applauded the administration of Comrade Adeleke Samson for repositioning the National Association of University Students (NAUS) into a force to be reckoned with.
Marking NAUS’s one-year anniversary, Ogbeni Sasona described the journey as nothing short of transformative, boldly declaring:
“This is the NAUS of our dreams.”
According to him, the association has, within a short period, evolved from relative obscurity into a vibrant and influential body committed to the growth, protection, and welfare of university students—particularly within the University of Ilesa and beyond.
He emphasized that the Adeleke Samson-led administration has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, adding that history will remember this era as a turning point for NAUS. Under this leadership, the association has not only gained visibility but has also earned credibility as a voice that truly represents students.
Ogbeni Sasona further commended the Vice Chairman, Comrade Olalekan Johnson, describing him as a dependable ally and “a super hero” whose unwavering support has significantly contributed to the administration’s success.
Reflecting on key milestones, he highlighted NAUS’s bold intervention in the protest against the hike in hostel fees at the University of Ilesa. Through strategic dialogue and engagement with the institution’s management, the association successfully facilitated a reduction in hostel costs—offering relief to students and reinforcing its commitment to their welfare.
Beyond advocacy, NAUS has also prioritized unity and student engagement across institutions. The association successfully organized a football competition and a table tennis tournament, initiatives designed to bring together students from various universities across Osun State. These events not only promoted healthy competition but also fostered unity, collaboration, and a stronger sense of community among students.
In addition, NAUS has strengthened collaboration with sister organizations, promoting unity, growth, and improved representation across student bodies.
In the absence of a Student Union Government within the University of Ilesa, NAUS has stepped in as a crucial voice—standing firmly against exploitation while advocating for the rights and well-being of students.
The association’s collaboration with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also led to the reinstatement of affected students at EKSU Ila campus, further underscoring its proactive and solution-driven approach to student issues.
Addressing security concerns, particularly incidents of robbery at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), NAUS under Adeleke Samson’s leadership took decisive action by engaging relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure the safety of students.
In addition, the leadership maintained strong relationships with law enforcement, including visits to police stations, the Area Command, and the Commissioner of Police—efforts that have enhanced rapid response and security coordination when needed.
Concluding his statement, Ogbeni Sasona expressed confidence in the future of the association, noting that the current administration has laid a solid foundation for sustained impact.
“This administration has set a remarkable standard. We expect even greater achievements in the years ahead,” he affirmed.
